PREPARING SPECIFICATIONs FOR PAVEMENT MARKING
This guide can be used to specify off street pavement marking of new or existing concrete pavements. The quality of the finished pavement marking depends not only on specifying a quality marking paint but on seeing that the specifications are adhered to at the job site by a quality oriented, properly equipped contractor.
Some Important Tips: When laying out parking stalls use at least ten (10) feet wide stalls if possible. Narrower stalls can result in nicked car doors. Laying out a parking lot properly should result in a good flowing traffic pattern and more parking places. Some parking lots are sealed so that the traffic pattern can be changed. If there are bad oil spots on the lot, there may be adhesion problems with the new markings where they cross oil spots unless the pavement in these areas is patched.
Specification Coordination: Edit these guide specifications in accordance with project requirements. Delete, modify, add drawings or text as required.
Drawing Coordination: Drawings may be attached to show any areas to be patched, crackfilled, coated, and marked. The drawings should show the following:
1. Areas to be striped.
2. Location of the drive lanes.
3. Specific colors to be used for markings.
4. Handicapped areas, arrows, and etc.
Reference these drawings to the specifications.
